From the Bear Pit
Blue, green & gold

I wanted to try out my gold shatter, but couldn’t decide which shade to put under it - I was leaning towards blue or green but couldn’t decide which shade. So, I used ALL OF THE COLOURS.

This mani uses *deep breath* OPI Thanks a Windmillion, OPI Yoga-ta Get This Blue, OPI Gold Shatter, Sally Hansen Jumping Jade, Australis Limited Edition 2, L’Oreal High Tide, California Colors #45, L.A. Colors Disco Brights [unnamed green], and Sports Girl Nail It! [unnamed teal].

I’m not sure the end effect was quite what I was after - the gold shatter wasn’t as thick or shatter-y as I imagined, but with a top coat (China Glaze Fast Forward topcoat) the shimmery wash of gold really popped, and I think I like the end result.

In-progress pics and tutorial under the cut.

I started by alternating the palest blue and green shades on each finger.

I pulled out my Daniel Stone dotting tools and used the big end of the #2 tool to do layers of random dots. I’ve done this before and got a really lovely impressionist/Seurat effect - it’s a great way to use lots of colours and not worry about precise dot placement or consistent size!

I put shades of blue on the blue and green over the green, although I could have put everything all together.

Once this was completely dry I put on the gold shatter - not sure if a thinner or thicker layer than I attempted would have brought a better effect, and it really needed a top coat to actually POP.
