Fishtail Mani II: PAINT ALL THE NAILS!
Fishtail mani, with OPI “Did You ‘Ear About Van Gogh”, OPI “Thanks a Windmillion” and Revlon “Plum Night”.
This was my first try at this kind of mani, and while I think the end result looks damn nifty, DEAR GOD was it time consuming. Over an hour, and only one nail on each hand! The problem was that I smudged one nail and actually lost my place in terms of which colour I was up to on the other, and had to re-do half of each.
Also, I started with different colours which turned out to not have enough contrast and I was going too fast so they got all gloopy and mixed up.
Basically: LEARNING EXPERIENCE.
Definitely going to do this again, but I think I’ll try for slightly wider stripes - it will go more quickly, and I think I’ll get more consistency.
Grey-on-grey v-gap mani. Maybelline “300 Audacious Asphalt” under Maybelline “410 Impeccable Greys”.
Glitter ombre/gradient/whatever this is technically called
Just painted on using the brush, no sponging like I would with just a creme polish.
Sally Hansen “Glitter Gal” with “Celeb City” at the tip.
Dotted gradient. OPI ” I Have a Herring Problem” with Sally Hansen “Celeb City” and Kleancolor “Black”.
I have been admiring these nails by Saralounails for a while and with a new nail art pen (Manicare brand) in hand I decided I try free-handing something in the same vein.
Base is Revlon “Nude Chic”. The photo is taken pre-top coat, and I’m not 100% happy with the way the top coat lifted a little of the black in a few places. I’m not sure if it needed to dry longer, it’s just the pen, or my application.
My dubiously successful attempt at water spotted nails, following Chelseasgetnailed’s tutorial.
I used the Kleancolor “Candy Cast” set of neons for the base.
Dotted gradient - I’ve seen these around, but mostly in rainbow colours. I wanted something a little subtler.
Base is LA Colors “White”, with Australis “Limited Edition 2”, OPI “Thanks a Windmillion”, “I have a Herring Problem” and “Yoga-ta Get This Blue”.
Stripes!
Over a base of OPI “Suzi Takes the Wheel” (showing as tan in these photos instead of grey), I have a bunch of L.A. Colors Art Deco colours - White, Quirky Turquoise, Black and Dark Blue.
After Chalkboard Nail’s colour blocking tutorial.
I used OPI “Thanks a Windmillion”, OPI “I Have a Herring Problem” and Bys “Lilac Love”.
The colours didn’t really turn out as bright as I wanted, but the tape blocking turned out pretty well.
First try at a V-gap man. (I was really bad at colouring inside the lines on this one - even after clean up all the little messy bits on my cuticles I missed show up in a macro photo. Oops!)
L.A. Colors “Phenomena”, Klean Color “Black” and Essie “Matte About You” topcoat.
Colouring inside the lines! Tried the framed nail look on my own nails - not as easy to colour inside the lines on my own nails than it was on someone else’s!
I wanted to make things a bit more busy than the plain green (and to help hide the less-than-even frame).
OPI “Thanks a Windmillion”, LA Colors “Black” and Konad Plate M64.
