Glitter ombre/gradient/whatever this is technically called
Just painted on using the brush, no sponging like I would with just a creme polish.
Sally Hansen “Glitter Gal” with “Celeb City” at the tip.

(Not that a polish this shimmery was actually effected by the matte topcoat!)
After my last rather mono-chromatic mani, I wanted something brighter and with a nod to Valentine’s Day. I’m not sure if this design came from my imagination or I copied it from somewhere…
KleanColor “White” for the based then in order from the center, Bloom “Greta”, Sally Hansen “Ruby Sequin”, Kleancolor “Black”, Chichi pink, Revlon “Alluring Amber” and then the Bloom again.
If I do this design again I might try to keep the circles smaller - I think they’re more striking when they don’t cover the whole nail and you can clearly see the outer curve.
Water marbling…sort of.
I’m getting closer to getting the technique right to end up with the perfect marble pattern. In the meantime, what I’ve ended up with is kind of pretty if nothing else…
Apologies for the slightly messy clean-up job. I neglected to tape or vaseline my cuticles, and I got to the point where the nail polish remover was making me a little dizzy!

Newsprint nails again!
I’m really happy with the result - I’ve fully got the hang now of getting a clean, dark transfer on first try. This was also the first time I tried a piece of a crossword, and the result was nifty - I might try crossword nails sometime, but will look out for one with slightly smaller squares for a better effect.
The other thing I tried was a layer of white polish (Kleancolor White) under my usual Sally Hansen “Beige Blast”. One of the keys to newsprint nails is making sure your base coats are super dry, and with the “Beige Blast” I would need three or so coats to get the colour to really show up. With white underneath I only needed one coat of the beige, and it meant I didn’t get any wrinkling of the base coats when I pushed down on the newspaper.
I decided I wanted to try the tip I’ve seen in a few places, that using black as a base coat with a duochrome polish helps make it “pop” and reduces the number of layers you need of it. I think I’d need to compare side by side, but I think that it seems denser in colour.

I love the effect - I find a white polish by itself too stark, and this is a great black/white balance. Super easy to do - the mani style lends itself to messiness!
Skittle nails with black glitter gradient tips.
Thumb to pinky, colours used are; Bys “La Di Da”, L’Oreal “High Tide”, Revlon “Plum Baby”, Mode “Cool As”, Revlon “Alluring Amber”, with Sally Hansen Gem Crush “Glitz Gal” over the top.

Fiddly but effective! I think next time I’ll try to get thinner strips of tape and use darker, more contrasting colours.
